Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown Lead the Celtics to Victory in Game 1 of the NBA Finals
The Celtics closed out the first quarter of Monday's NBA Finals with a 31-24 lead, and the Mavericks never recovered. Tatum led the way for Boston with 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists, while Brown added 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.
The Celtics' victory was their first in the NBA Finals since 2008, when they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. It is also the franchise's 18th NBA championship, moving them one ahead of the Lakers for the most in league history.
The Celtics' victory was a dominant performance from start to finish. They shot 50% from the field and held the Mavericks to just 35%. They also outrebounded the Mavericks 54-38 and had a 20-10 advantage in assists.
The Celtics will now have a chance to take a 2-0 lead in the series when they host the Mavericks in Game 2 on Wednesday night.
